LED Christmas Figures for the Garden: How to Choose, Place and Connect Them
Share
LED Christmas figures are light motifs on an aluminium frame that you place on the lawn, fix to a wall or mount on a fence. The best displays start with one large figure as the focal point, add a few smaller figures in the same theme, and connect them so the whole display runs from one socket.
Which LED figures can you choose from?
Our LED figures fall into a few groups:
- Reindeer and sleighs: a standing reindeer of 88 × 50 cm and Santa's sleigh with reindeer of 55 × 110 cm.
- Santa: Santa Claus of 55 × 88 cm, Santa in the chimney of 55 × 85 cm and Santa in a parachute of 107 × 56 cm.
- Snowmen and gingerbread men: a snowman with hat and broom of 70 × 55 cm and a gingerbread man of 55 × 67 cm.
- Trees, stars and bells: LED and neon Christmas trees, shooting stars of 68 × 21 cm, bells, hearts, candy canes and Christmas ornaments.
- Trains and signs: Christmas trains up to 2.6 metres long and Christmas signs in your own language.
How to build a display that works from the street
- Start with one large figure. A train, a sleigh or a large Christmas sign becomes the focal point that people notice first.
- Add two to four smaller figures in the same theme. Reindeer with a sleigh, or snowmen with stars, look planned. Random figures look scattered.
- Mix heights. Fix some figures to a wall or fence and place others on the lawn, so the display has depth.
- Keep to one colour scheme. Warm white gives a calm, classic look. Multicolour gives a playful look that children love.
- Face the street. Place the figures so they are seen from the road and the pavement, not only from your own window.
How to connect several LED figures
Most figures come with a detachable black power cord of 3 metres. To run several figures from one socket, use one T-connector and one connector cable of 1.5, 3 or 5 metres per figure. You will find these under accessories.
The connected figures must not exceed 130 W in total. Add up the maximum wattage from the technical description of each product. For example, Santa's Train (82 W) and a God Jul LED sign (20 W) add up to 102 W, which leaves room for one more figure of up to 28 W. The technical description also tells you whether a figure can be connected.
Tighten each connection properly and make sure the waterproof cover sits over the joint.
Safety and storage
The LED figures are made for outdoor use in rain and snow. Check the IP rating in the technical description of each figure, for example IP44. They are not made for permanent lighting, so take them down after Christmas and store them indoors in a dry place. Some of the large figures split into parts for easier storage. Never hang a figure by its power cord.
